An Atlanta, Georgia woman, who suffered a heart attack and a debilitating brain injury following the birth of her child, has been awarded nearly $46 million in damages. A jury in Georgia state court found that the Atlanta health care facility and two doctors were negligent. Shannon Trabue gave birth to her child in August 2009.  Following childbirth, Ms. Trabue suffered various issues while still in the hospital. For two days after child birth, her blood pressure remained abnormally high.

Three days later, she began to experience shortness of breath. A chest X-ray and oxygen mask were ordered, but her blood pressure continued to rise. That’s when an emergency occurred that would result in the debilitating brain injury to Ms. Trabue. The young mother suffered a heart attack and required resuscitation. It was determined that she went without oxygen for 10 to 12 minutes, and as a result suffered a hypoxic brain injury that led to a total disability.
